TEAM ONE
TEAM ONE comes to us from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches - go Lumberjacks - and has a demonstrated commitment to music by women as well as composition deeply connected to community and place.
Rose Kearin, soprano, hails from Houston and currently resides in Spring, TX. Recently, she performed at the Eastman School of Music, partnering with with faculty pianist and vocal coach Brock Tjosvold in music of Lili and Nadia Boulanger.
Ben Morris, composer, is from Chatham, NJ. He is Assistant Professor of Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University. Recently, he finished a multimedia piece entitled “Longleaf” about the endangered longleaf pine forest of East Texas and its reliance on prescribed fire. He is currently working on a soprano sax and wind ensemble concerto inspired by the overexploitation of our natural resources.
Maggie Hinchliffe, pianist, is also from New Jersey - Glen Ridge, to be exact - and is the Staff Collaborative Pianist at Stephen F. Austin State University. In 2023, she commissioned composer Clare Glackin to set her 94-year-old grandmother's "feminist" persona poems to music. They were her first and only poems ever set to music after a lifelong career in poetry and teaching, and Maggie performed them for her on a recital that included other works by women such as Clara Schumann.
